Four out of five adults will suffer from musculoskeletal pain at some point in their lives. Luckily, for ODS members, there is help.
ODS is pleased to announce the launching of its newest healthcare initiative: the Spine & Joint Care Program. This musculoskeletal and pain management coaching benefit became available to medical members beginning March 31, 2010.
Said Dr. William Johnson, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, “Added to our suite of ODS Care benefits, this new coaching program offers members condition-specific outreach and telephone-based ‘health coaching.’ Our multi-disciplinary team of clinicians whose specialty is spine and joint disorders focuses specifically on acute and chronic pain, and providing informed-decision support.”
One-on-one health coaches will work actively with members to help them understand spine and joint anatomy, and to create a plan of modified, joint-sparing activities and techniques to use at home and work. The program emphasizes the member working with his or her provider on interventions including stretching and strengthening exercises, relaxation techniques, diet and weight management, smoking cessation and medication management.
“Utilizing both patient activation measures and motivational interviewing techniques, one-on-one coaching enables members to make realistic and meaningful decisions that reflect their personal needs and values,” said Johnson. “Based on the member’s level of knowledge, skills and confidence in managing their health condition, members needing higher levels of support may be offered care coordination and case management services.”
